Hello pilots!
Upon release, not everything is going to be available to the players from the get-go. Here is a guide on the first steps to do in the game to be able to obtain new items and equipment, including different player ships!
First time in the game:
- the game prevents the use of the Windows close button (visible when the game is windowed), it also blocks the use of Alt+F4. This is done so that players can't just exit the game when they are loosing a battle.
Plan is to adjust this feature and only block this when actually logged in. But keep in mind that it's currently working this way.
- Upon logging in for the first time, you will be spawned next to a home station in system 1-1. Land on that station and check the section "Missions" in the opened station interior. There is a chained mission called "First steps" which provides some basic equipment to the players for completion. Be sure to check this section on any space station available for landing to accept new missions.
- Notice the HUD icons in the middle of the top of the screen. 2nd icon from right resembles a question mark "?". If you hover over this icon with your cursor, it will show "WoTUpedia". This is the in-game guide for the game.
WoTUpedia is not completed yet and currently features the most basic guides. Please, refer to them when trying to do something new.
- Most HUD windows can be shown / hidden using HUD icons and keyboard shortcuts. Be sure to check the game settings and adjust the shortcuts to your liking.
I want new equipment and new ship
- Great! But, there is something to keep in mind - WoTU has a player-based economy, which means that nothing really exists unless someone creates it first. To create a new item, station factory is needed. There is a system of dependency between the player-made stations. Here is an order of the stations in which they should be built:
- Refinery
- Refinery is possibly the most important station in the whole production process and every other station in the game uses its products to create equipment and stuff. It is the cheapest and also the weakest station to build. It takes raw resources and refine them into usable material. Every other station type requires these usable materials for their construction, so the Refinery is essential to be present in the game.
- Electro & Mecha stations
- Electro station builds energy components while Mecha station builds mechanical components. These components are used to create new equipment. These stations can also build defense equipment - for which the Science station is needed, but we'll get to it a bit further below.
- Trade station
- Trade station potential will be fully unlocked in the future, when it will become essential to have a trading station in the system if you'd like to colonise a planet. For now, it is also important, because it is producing a special payment item for high skilled NPC scientists.
- Science station
- Another essential station to have if you plan on creating a new equipment. This station can produce blueprints and some other pieces of equipment like engines. Blueprints are consumed by every equipment factory line. No science station, no new equipment.
- Military station
- Station dedicated to weapons production.
- Shipyard
- Station dedicated to ship production.
- Distillery
- Full potential will be fully unlocked in the future, when it will become essential to maintain a supply from this station for the colonised planets by players.
- This station can produce fuel, which is used by every ship to perform a hyper-jump.
- Each station can have only a single production line active at the same time.
- Currently, there are up to 3 station spawners in each system without an NPC space station, that can be used to build a new station. These spawners are not visible on the radar, but you will see them on the game map. Their location is not really mentioned anywhere in the game at this moment - there is a plan to feature this in the StarMap window upon selecting a specific system.
- If there is a player-made space station, the station spawner used for the station construction will become inactive and hidden.
- Keep in mind, that the items in your station shop will not immediately become available for sale, even if a stock of goods is present on the station. Be sure to set each item price in order for that item to be available for transaction. Setting the price as 0 (zero) will lock the item for that particular transaction.
I am aware that the beginning of the journey in WoTU will be tougher then later in the game since there will be nothing made by players yet. I would like to encourage you all to dive into it to experience this space-colonisation era!
