Asteroids are the main sources of raw materials that need to be processed by a refinery station in order to be used for every manufacturing process of any other station.
Asteroids always orbit around the star / system centre (at coords 200/200 of the system). Asteroids are NOT present in every system. Besides a few exceptions, the asteroids can almost always be found in an asteroid belt with many asteroids floating together.
To mine an asteroid, player have to destroy it by shooting.
There are 4 types of asteroids:
- ice - pale blue colour, these asteroids with frozen water need lower temperatures, so they are mostly further away from the star / near system borders.
- iron - dark blue colour, these iron rich asteroids are leftovers from planet forming era of the system and are mostly found half the distance away from the star to the system borders.
- copper - pale brown / dark orange-ish colour, these asteroids are full of copper since they are found very close to the stars, where the conditions (temperature and pressure) are just ideal for copper forming.
- dust - grey colour, these asteroids do have some resources, but their amount is not sufficient enough to extract anything. You can consider them empty asteroids since they'll never give you anything.
There are 3 sizes of asteroids:
- small - most common size of asteroids, these are present in every asteroid belt you can find in the galaxy.
- medium - unusual size of the asteroids, mostly found in systems with very high amount of asteroids.
- big - rare size of the asteroids, there are very few of these as they failed for various reasons to amass enough materials to become a planet.
Technical data:
Size specific values are always ordered as Small | Medium | Big.
Values are always randomly assigned within the provided Min-Max value range.
* Values are calculated upon server restart and then every time the asteroid is mined.
* Asteroid resources are given to a single player upon its destruction. Only the 1st player to start shooting the asteroid gets its resources. BUT: if the "miner" of the asteroid stops shooting the asteroid for 10 seconds, the "miner" of the asteroid is cleared to allow another player to claim the resources.
* If asteroid is mined, its type and size stays the same, only its drop amount, position and HP are re-calculated.
* There is always a fixed amount of asteroids of specific type and size for each system -> if no asteroid is awaiting a respawn, there are never less / more asteroids than specified.
* General asteroid respawn time: 60 seconds

PS: At the moment (17/01/2023), it is possible to fly through an asteroid with nothing happening. Please keep in mind that there is a plan for the future to allow crashing into an asteroid, which would destroy the asteroid and deal damage to the player that amounts to the HP the asteroid had in the moment of the crash. If no one was mining the asteroid, this crash would actually mine the asteroid and provide its resources to the player.
